Special Issue: Health Research in Sub-Saharan Africa in Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review

Sub-Saharan Africa faces unique and complex health challenges, including a high burden of infectious diseases, growing prevalence of non-communicable diseases, limited access to healthcare services, and persistent health disparities influenced by socioeconomic and environmental factors. Yet, the region is also a dynamic space for innovation, resilience, and scientific advancement.

This Special Issue of the Brazilian Journal of Clinical Medicine and Review aims to highlight original research, reviews, and perspectives that deepen our understanding of health conditions affecting populations in Sub-Saharan Africa. Topics may include, but are not limited to, disease prevention and control, maternal and child health, mental health, emerging infectious diseases, implementation science, health systems research, and the role of traditional and community-based medicine.

By bringing attention to the scientific contributions and pressing health priorities in the region, we hope this Special Issue will serve as a platform for advancing global health equity and fostering meaningful academic dialogue.

This Special Issue will accept submissions in the following categories, provided they focus on human health or health education in the context of Sub-Saharan Africa:

  • Original Research
  • Experience Reports
  • Health Review Articles
  • Mini Reviews
  • Medical Hypotheses

All manuscripts will undergo peer review and must adhere to the journal’s editorial policies and formatting guidelines. Submissions in English, or Portuguese are welcome.

Special Issue Editor: Dr. Howard Lopes Ribeiro Junior. Editor in Chief of BJCMR

This Special Issue will include a maximum of 30 articles, selected based on scientific merit, relevance to the theme, and adherence to the journal’s editorial standards.

Deadline for manuscript submissions: 15 July 2025.

All articles are open access and freely available upon publication.

To cover publishing costs, an APC is charged after acceptance:

* There is no limit on the number of authors per manuscript submitted to this Special Issue.

** Corresponding authors from PALOP countries will receive a full APC waiver for accepted manuscripts in this Special Issue.
